Hope Mills council approves three rezonings aimed at commercial and industrial development
Summary
After public hearings, the town council approved three zoning actions (ZG-008-25, ZG-009-25 and ZG-010-25) that reclassify multiple parcels to commercial districts consistent with the 2013 Southwest land-use plan; applicants cited prospective buyers and development interest.

The Hope Mills Town Council approved three separate zoning requests following staff presentations and brief public hearings.
ZG-008-25: Staff presented a request to rezone approximately 1.2 acres (two parcels) at North Main Street and Z Dun Street from R6 residential to C1 Local Business District. The applicant's representative, Gloria of Larry King Associates, said a prospective buyer is interested in development; the planning board had recommended approval.
ZG-009-25: The council approved a rezoning of roughly 27.4 acres from R5 CV to C2P (service and retail) with conditional zoning. Applicant Charles Maxwell said developers are closing and that the change aligns the parcel with adjacent commercial property and the 2013 Southwest plan.
ZG-010-25: The board granted initial CP commercial district zoning for about 0.75 acres annexed into town limits, with staff finding the request consistent with the long-range land-use plan and regional economic development goals.
In each hearing, staff explained utility access and compatibility with the Southwest plan. Public comment included representatives for applicants speaking in favor; no speakers registered opposition on the record and the motions carried with no recorded votes in opposition.
Next steps: Developers will proceed with the separate development-review and permitting processes required to implement projects under the new zoning classifications.
