Springfield swears in Michael Mastroni as deputy fire chief; he pledges support for department

Michael Mastroni was sworn in as deputy fire chief of the Springfield Fire Department during the township committee meeting on June 11, 2025.
During the oath, Mastroni stated his name and pledged to “support the Constitution of the United States ... and to faithfully and impartially perform all the duties of the office of deputy fire chief according to the best of my ability.” After the oath he thanked the township committee for their support, recounted more than 25 years with the department, and said the work of firefighting "is not always glamorous" but expressed pride in serving the community.
Committee members offered extended congratulations and described Mastroni as personable, community-oriented and responsive to residents. Several members noted his visibility at local events, his long-standing relationship with departmental leadership and his commitment to recruiting and supporting firefighters.
The committee recessed briefly for photographs with the deputy chief, his family and township officials before resuming the public meeting.
