Council gives Eagle Scout projects informal sign-off; scouts propose fire-safety and memorial wall projects

Two Eagle Scout candidates presented project proposals at the Jan. 23 Allendale mayor and council meeting and received council approval to proceed to the Scout council for final sign-off.
Joshua described a two-day fire-safety awareness program proposed for April 5–6; the first day would be open to the general public and the second day would focus on people with special needs. He said topics would include home fire prevention, containment, escape plans and demonstration of common home safety equipment such as extinguishers and smoke and carbon-monoxide detectors. The mayor and council recommended Joshua confirm available dates with borough staff (Amanda Richards) and supported the concept.
Jacob described a proposal to build an informational/dedication wall behind the recently installed fire pit at Crestwood Lake, with a central plaque, six military-branch logos and a bench near the 9/11 memorial for older residents and veterans. He said final dimensions would depend on donated stone suppliers and that a foundation would be required; council and the fire chief offered encouragement and asked him to follow up with construction details.
Councilor Yaro moved a motion to approve the scouts’ projects so they could take the approvals to the Scout council; the motion was seconded and recorded as approved by roll call.
