The Edison Township Board of Education on June 11 voted to appoint the individual named in the resolution as 'Miss F Lee' as principal of JP Stevens High School, effective Aug. 1, 2024, and approved awards for insurance and benefits consulting services.
The motion to appoint the principal and the motion to award contracts were read into the record after the board reconvened from a closed personnel session. The second resolution named Brown and Brown as risk manager, Doyle Alliance as medical broker and Assured Partners as prescription broker under competitive contract numbers 2418 and 2419.
The board conducted a roll-call vote on the resolutions. Several members voted yes; two members recorded abstentions on personnel matters. Mr Schneider abstained on the personnel portion of the vote and Miss White also recorded an abstention citing a conflict on personnel. After the roll call the president announced the motions carried.
Board leadership congratulated the newly appointed principal. President Patel said the board has high expectations for JP Stevens and welcomed the appointee to the district. The person named in the resolution spoke briefly, saying they were “very excited” to join the team and look forward to meeting students, staff and the community.
The business administrator said the resolutions had been discussed in closed session under N.J.S.A. regarding personnel and that the board expected to return to open session and vote on the items after the confidential review. The appointment and contract awards were the only formal actions recorded in open session on June 11.
What happens next: the appointee’s start date is listed as Aug. 1, 2024, and the district will proceed with onboarding and transition activities. The district did not announce additional personnel changes or the dollar amounts of the awarded contracts in the open record at the caucus meeting.
