Planning staff summarizes recent approvals, site plans and upcoming zoning items
Summary
Staff reported recent Board approvals, approved site plans for an RV sales site and a Publix grocery store, an application under review for Paws Pet Resort, and upcoming zoning items including data center ordinance changes, firearms sales at a pawn shop and drive-through standards.
Planning staff reviewed the department’s development activity report and highlighted recent and upcoming items.
Staff said the Board of Supervisors approved several items at its February meeting, including changes related to a theft-deterrent wire, the Lafayette Gun Club matter, and parcel changes for the Picosen property. Staff noted the board has no items on its March agenda relevant to the commission’s work.
Approved site plans highlighted in the report included an RV sales site along Route 17 (conversion of a grassy lot to a paved sales area with a building) and a site plan for a Publix grocery store, allowing land-disturbing activity to begin. Staff also said an application for "Paws Pet Resort" on Lightfoot Road has been submitted and remains under county review.
Looking ahead, staff said upcoming Board agenda items will include proposed amendments to the county’s data center ordinance, a firearms sales and service application at a local pawn shop, a proposed tourist home, and zoning ordinance amendments addressing drive-through standards. Staff described other smaller subdivisions and routine items in the packet.
Staff closed by inviting questions; none were raised, and the commission adjourned.
