Patrick County declares countywide burn ban, adopts opioid settlement resolution and schedules budget hearing

Patrick County officials announced several administrative actions and updates at the April 13 Board of Supervisors meeting, including an immediate countywide burn ban, adoption of an opioid settlement resolution and administrative notices related to the upcoming budget process.

The county administrator announced a countywide burn ban effective at midnight and in place until further notice. The same speaker informed the public that the Stuart DMV Select office would be closed on April 14 and thanked school and constitutional officials and county staff for work on the budget.

The board also considered a drafted resolution related to the opioid settlement and approved it by recorded vote: Mr. Marshall (aye), Mr. Kendrick (aye), Mr. Wood (aye) and Chair (aye). The county noted that the proposed FY2026–2027 budget public hearing had been held as advertised; no citizens signed up to speak, and the hearing was closed. The administrator emphasized that tax rates are proposed to remain the same for 2026–2027 and that appropriations will follow a separate appropriation process.

The administrator reported ongoing county work to identify residents affected by recent FEMA flood‑map changes and thanked GIS staff for outreach efforts. He called on residents to watch for county communications about map updates and potential impacts.

The board recorded a mix of routine administrative motions and one appropriation‑related update for follow up; no ordinance changes were adopted at the meeting.
