Poteau board approves consent items: stipends, contracts, trips, surplus and hires
Summary

At its regular meeting, the Poteau Public Schools board approved a package of routine consent items and personnel actions.
Key approvals included:
- A stipend of $4,229.52 for the SCC principal to cover 12 days of additional summer work, a motion that passed after discussion about the timing of hires and the need for principals to work in May and June.
- Enrollment in the Oklahoma Teacher Empowerment Program for the 2026–27 year, a state application program that provides stipend money to site and district teachers of the year.
- Approval of listed surplus items, including approximately 1,500 older books from PKMS and legacy athletic uniforms identified for disposition.
- Multiple activity fund projects and fundraisers for 2025–26 and 2026–27, a new activity-fund project for the primary 3-year-old program, renaming of certain projects to remove the word "dance," and closure of an adult-ed activity fund with no remaining balance.
- Out-of-state travel approvals for athletic and extracurricular activities (football team camps in Arkansas; PHS baseball travel to Sanford/Bridal, Florida with four guaranteed games; an elementary competition in Fort Smith).
- An updated lease-purchase agreement for property at 2214 North Broadway (proposed monthly rent change from $1,000 to $1,600), which the board approved as a modification to an existing lease.
- Approval of annual contract renewals and service agreements for items 1–11 (memberships, employment services, OT/PT, PowerSchool evaluation tools, robocall provider, telemedicine, student information systems, accounting software and cybersecurity tools). Item 12 (OPA food management) was postponed pending a returned signature.
- Personnel approvals after executive session, including hiring Bridal Hedges (tier-1 paraprofessional), Allen Stockton (7–8 principal), Dallas Hubanks (5–6 teacher), and Kelly Looper (4th-grade ELA teacher). The board recorded roll-call votes in favor of those hires.
