Delta agencies outline conservation, planning and grant opportunities for Solano County

Representatives of three state Delta agencies told the Solano County Board of Supervisors on May 12 that protecting the Sacramento‑San Joaquin Delta will require continued coordination, investment and local partnerships.
Amanda Bull of the Delta Protection Commission summarized the agency’s land‑use and heritage focus and encouraged local planners to engage the commission’s Land Use and Resource Management Plan. "The Commission focuses on land use, heritage, and economic sustainability," Bull said, noting the commission’s review role for projects affecting the Delta primary zone.
Jeff Henderson of the Delta Stewardship Council described the Delta Plan’s legally enforceable regulations and the council’s science program. Campbell Ingram of the Delta Conservancy said the conservancy acts as an implementer and funder, noting it has "funded about 140 projects and made about $160,000,000 available to projects in the Delta" and that Prop 4 will provide program funding with grant rounds expected this summer.
Board members asked about invasive species (nutria) control, school‑field trips, and how Solano can increase local Delta passport sites for outreach and tourism. Conservancy staff said funding solicitations will emphasize accessibility for disadvantaged communities and may include habitat, nature‑based solutions and community enhancement streams; they encouraged eligible local entities to submit project concepts.
