The Scott County Visitors Commission on April 14 postponed consideration of a CBR racing sponsorship application after members raised objections to funding an event held outside the county.
Commissioners said they wanted clearer evidence that the races at Salem Speedway would boost Scott County lodging and business revenue before committing tourism dollars. One commissioner noted a reluctance to fund out‑of‑county events without hotel or tourism operators present to explain the local economic impact and recommended the applicants appear in person at the next meeting.
The commission moved to defer the application for one week and asked staff to invite the applicant and area hotel representatives so commissioners can evaluate whether the sponsorship will generate room nights and other benefits to Scott County businesses.
