Oakland Unified board approves $507,793 lighting upgrade for Skyline High

At a special March 25 meeting, the Oakland Unified School Board voted to approve a design and purchase agreement with Musco Sports Lighting LLC for the Skyline High School lighting replacement project, with a not-to-exceed price of $507,793.04. Board members framed the project as an investment in school facilities and extracurricular opportunities. "I'm excited about this project because this is, again, an investment that we're making not only in our school facilities, but also in the places where our student athletes get to shine," Vice President Bachelor said, urging support for the measure.
The motion to adopt the CMAS award was moved by Vice President Bachelor and seconded by Director Latta. During discussion, a board member asked whether the funds had already been encumbered; the clerk and board confirmed the agenda noted the project would be paid from Measure Y.
On the roll call, Directors Latta, Williams, Berry, Thompson, Vice President Bachelor and President Pearlhart voted yes; Director Hutchinson and student board representatives were recorded absent. The motion was announced as adopted.
The board did not provide a construction schedule during the meeting; staff indicated the project is proceeding through the CMAS procurement and will return to the district for implementation steps. No members objected to moving forward; the vote authorizes the district to execute the CMAS purchase agreement with Musco Sports Lighting LLC for the Skyline High School Lighting Replacement Project.
The board returned later in the meeting to other agenda items, including a separate discussion about extending fiscal-advisory support.
