Cascade County treasurer reports $84.2 million in county funds; property tax receipts top $23 million

Cascade County Treasurer Diane Hakala reported to the Cascade County Commission on Jan. 28 that the county’s combined bank balances totaled $84,198,000.77 as of Dec. 31, 2025.
Hakala said the US Bank master account held $5,220,750.51 and the Montana Board of Investment short-term investment pool (STIP) held $78,977,248.94. She listed other balances including clerk of court restitution ($15,481.65), sheriff’s commissary ($190,399.30) and justice court new trust ($93,006.09).
The treasurer reported major receipts for the month included $23,070,142.95 in property-tax collections and $811,148.22 in motor-vehicle receipts. Monthly disbursements cited included payments to the City of Great Falls totaling $7,482,396.80 and Great Falls Public Schools totaling $3,774,045.34.
Commissioners did not ask follow-up questions after the report and the chair moved on to the consent agenda. The treasurer noted the justice court statement was not available at the time of reporting.
