Assembly adopts ordinance changing mobile-home property classification; vote 5-0

After a public hearing and discussion about tax treatment of mobile homes, the Hainesborough Assembly adopted ordinance 26-04-739 on May 12. The ordinance amends property classification and definitions related to mobile homes.
Opponents at the hearing, including Deborah Schnabel, said the ordinance could create unfair differences between mobile homes owned by individuals and mobile homes owned by commercial enterprises in parks. Assembly discussion clarified that mill rates would remain the same while assessed values differ, producing small tax liability on lower-valued mobile homes.
Motion to adopt the ordinance was made by Sergeant and seconded by Forrester. The clerk called the roll: Forrester, Sargent, Loomis, Stickler and Thomas recorded yes votes and the motion passed 5–0.
