Irmo council advances $13.0M FY2026–27 budget in first reading

At its April 21 meeting, the Town of Irmo council approved the first reading of Ordinance 26-10, establishing the town’s operating and capital budgets for fiscal year 2026–27.
Town administrator Jim Crosslin summarized the proposed general fund operating budget at $13,025,193, noting it includes approximately $1.9 million in USDA funds. Staff described capital items included in the proposal: updated town-hall finance software (~$80,000), a Union United Methodist Church bridge and trail allocation (~$102,000), and an ongoing document-scanning project (~$40,000). Crosslin also noted a CPI-driven increase for sanitation services and staff pay adjustments.
During discussion a council member asked about a roughly $130,000 'benevolence' line in the legislative section and proposed the council consider a formal policy or rubric to govern distributions from that account so nonprofits could benefit in a transparent way. The council agreed to place that topic on a future work session agenda.
