Commissioners approved a waiver to consider a resolution for emergency relocation of polling places in Commission District 4 ahead of an upcoming election; after a motion and second the chair called for the ayes and the measure passed. The commission also waived rules to consider awarding a bid to Peregrine Services for printing and mailing renewal notices because the current contract expires at the end of the month; staff said the waiver was requested to prevent a service interruption.
Staff previewed several items that will appear on the next formal agenda or be handled at the formal session: an amendment to the GFL Environmental contract to extend dumpster and trash collection services through June 30, 2027 (with a 5% price increase per contract terms); a franchise agreement with Lumos Fiber of Alabama LLC; proposed bid awards for janitorial services across county facilities (Clean Slate Cleaning Group; Good Success Company Inc.); and a bid recommendation to Haynes Ambulance for emergency medical treatment and transport. Commissioners discussed ambulance placement options (Waugh and South Montgomery) and said any award would be followed by a draft agreement worked jointly with volunteer fire associations.
Commissioner Harris also introduced Sandra Cunningham as the county's new purchasing manager and announced that employee Cody Clark will leave for AUM at the end of the month. Commissioners pledged a combined $15,000 to support a Boys & Girls Club summer program (several commissioners pledged $3,000 each).
Next steps: The waived items moved forward for formal consideration; staff will present draft agreements and budget clarifications as required on the next agenda.
