The Jackson County Commission on April 14 approved a lease with Island Boat Rentals LLC to operate the boat rental concession at Jackson County Park and to occupy three boat slips.
County counsel reviewed the lease, describing it as similar to the county's previous agreements. Under the terms presented, the tenant will pay $1,100 per month during the April through October season and $400 per month from November through March. Slip rental is set at $250. The county retained five-year renewal options, with an annual rental increase of 5 percent on renewal.
Doug, who presented the selection after a lengthy search, said the chosen operator is an experienced local rental company and requested expedited approval so the tenant could begin operations in mid-April and be ready to rent boats by May 1. Commissioners asked practical questions about slip availability and winter storage; staff responded that the operator will remove boats from the water during the off-season and slips will be available to rent if desired.
The commission voted to set aside rules and to enter the lease agreement with Islands Boat Rental LLC by voice vote. The lease document includes maintenance, repair and damage responsibilities, and a standard renewal structure.
Next steps: staff will finalize lease documents and coordinate the operator's planned May start date.
