Board approves personnel changes, handbook updates, salary schedules and policy first readings

At its April 20 meeting the Superior School District Board approved a slate of administrative and personnel items, including gifts and grants, new hires and separations, job-description changes for the IT department, handbook language updates and multiple salary schedule increases for the 2026—iscal year.
Motions to accept the gifts, grants and bequests received in March 2026 passed by voice vote. The personnel report for April 2026 (new hires and separations) was approved; the board noted the retirement of longtime employee Clarice Peterson. The board approved updated job descriptions and a departmental restructure recommended by IT Director Dan Whitaker (Technology Specialist I & II, Network Administrator, Student Information Systems Coordinator).
Administrators also presented and the board approved changes to the employee handbook for 2026 nd ratified salary increases enumerated in the meeting attachments: teacher salary increases (ratified by the SFT on March 26, 2026), increases for support staff, hourly professional staff, a new salary schedule for salaried professional staff, and administrative staff increases. One abstention was recorded on the teacher salary vote; otherwise items passed by voice vote.
On policy matters, the board approved first readings of policy 3340 (grievance procedure), policy 1213 (administrator student supervision and welfare), policy 3213 (professional staff supervision and welfare), and policy 8462 (child abuse and neglect), each updated to align with 2025 Wisconsin Act 57. Discussion centered on training requirements, reporting timelines and progressive-discipline consequences for failures to report.
Additionally, the board approved Resolution 26-01 establishing the attendance area for the Super Superior Learning Academy for 2026 nd moved and approved payment of pre-approved bills. The meeting concluded with recognition for board member Nick Schumacher and adjournment.
