Alexander County Schools honors Battle of the Books winners and presents Sam Houston leadership award to Jessica Anderson

The Alexander County Board of Education recognized student winners in district competitions and presented an award to a district leader during the honors and recognitions portion of the meeting.
Elementary Battle of the Books winners from Stony Point were called forward and their coaches, Chelsea Harrington and Jordan Hefner, were acknowledged. West Alexander Middle School was recognized as district champion in the middle-school Battle of the Books; coach Miss Lewis noted the team managed 20 books and performed strongly at regionals. District spelling bee champion Jace Foster (East Alexander Middle School) and runner-up Cynthia (West Alexander Middle School, eighth grade) were also acknowledged.
Mr. Hook presented Jessica Anderson as a recipient of the Dr. Samuel Houston Leadership Award, given by the North Carolina School Superintendent Association to graduates of its aspiring superintendent program. Mr. Hook described Anderson's commitment to continuous improvement, ethical conduct, strategic planning and student performance. Dr. Griffin called Anderson "part of our leadership team" and praised her dedication.
Board members and honorees took group photos and the recognitions portion concluded.
