Board approves $637,775 contract to build Power Line Trail near Switchyard Park

The Bloomington Board of Park Commissioners approved a construction contract with Monroe LLC worth $637,775 for the new Power Line Trail, which will run in the Duke power line easement across from Switchyard Park and is scheduled for construction this summer.
Rebecca Swift, operations director, recommended Monroe LLC as the low bidder from five responses and said the project will be funded from the bicentennial bond. "They were the lowest of five bids received at a total of $637,775," Swift told the board. The project will be located in the Duke power line easement adjacent to Switchyard Park and staff said construction is expected in spring–summer.
The board also approved a related contract with REA for construction inspection services, not to exceed $124,950, to provide on-site technical oversight during concrete, gravel and asphalt operations. Swift said REA has worked with the department previously and the contract amount is a not-to-exceed cap.
Board members moved and seconded motions to approve both the construction contract and the inspection contract, and each motion carried unanimously. Staff listed the contracts among several construction and maintenance items the board approved that night.
Work on the Power Line Trail is scheduled to begin this season; staff will return with project updates as construction progresses and expenditures are recorded.
