Board announces new RUHS principal, approves new course and several administrative items

The Redondo Beach Unified School District board announced several personnel appointments and approved multiple administrative items during its July 16 meeting.
From closed session the board announced that it supports Superintendent Dr. Wesley’s appointment of Marvin Brown as principal of Redondo Union High School; Mr. Brown emerged as the first choice from a pool of 15 applicants and brings experience in special education and school leadership within the district. The board also introduced three assistant principals moving into roles at Redondo Union High School, Paris Middle School and Washington Elementary School: Christina Sunata, Alexis Okahara and Stephanie Lee. The board and superintendent offered brief biographies and congratulations.
On the consent and action calendar the board approved a new year-long elective, native-speaker Spanish, for Adams Middle School intended to smooth the transition from dual-immersion middle-school coursework to advanced high-school Spanish pathways. The board also accepted a Career Technical Education (CTE) incentive grant: $50,000 in grant funds with a $68,000 district match to expand a middle-school CTE lab this year (total $118,000).
Additional approvals included an updated job description for the South Bay Adult School principal (staff noted the position is funded fully by the adult school) and a memorandum of understanding with the Redondo Beach Teachers Association to provide the RBTA president with an additional 20% release period for the 2024–25 school year; RBTA will reimburse the district for the salary and related costs.
Board members paid tribute to outgoing administrator Dr. Susan Wilds during the superintendent’s report and announced upcoming meeting dates. No formal dissent on these personnel and administrative items was recorded in the meeting record.
