Parker council authorizes competitive procurement for Southbury Regional Park phase two

Parker’s Town Council on March 2 approved a resolution authorizing competitive procurement for construction of Southbury Regional Park phase two and directing staff to use the six contractors prequalified for the phase‑one work.
Staff said phase two remains in design and that anticipated amenities include up to 17 pickleball courts (with overlays), two tennis courts, additional multi‑use fields, basketball courts, a splash pad, a skills bike track, restrooms, storage and parking. The council was told the project footprint covers approximately 91.38 acres for the park complex.
Town staff explained that the prequalification process for phase one produced six qualified general contractors; using that prequalified pool for phase two is allowed under town code, saves time and is designed to encourage competitive bids from proven firms. Council members asked about the selection and evaluation process; staff described the RFQ/shortlist and said bids will return for council review and award.
Council members praised staff work and supported proceeding, citing efficiencies and the benefit of bringing a major recreational amenity to Parker. The resolution passed unanimously.
