The Hillsborough Township Committee voted unanimously on Nov. 24 to adopt ordinance 2025-15, renewing municipal consent for Comcast of Central New Jersey LLC to construct, operate and maintain cable and communications infrastructure in the township.
Committee members opened a public hearing on the ordinance and then closed it before taking a roll-call vote that passed on a unanimous record. Officials noted the franchise agreement includes a standard municipal clause requiring the company to repair any roadwork it disturbs when installing or maintaining facilities.
Committee members and staff said the municipality does not control which private companies choose to offer service in particular neighborhoods; that decision is driven by provider analysis of customer density and business considerations. The committee also noted that standard options such as FiOS or satellite remain available in parts of town.
Ordinance 2025-15 passed on Nov. 24; the committee recorded a unanimous vote in favor.
