The Metro Council executive committee on April 15 received updates on two open positions and urged HR to include language access and accessibility considerations in job descriptions and outreach.
Brian told the committee the public information officer (PIO) recruitment has advanced to preliminary interviews and will continue with an additional round before a recommendation. He also said the financial analyst posting closed and the HR portal recorded roughly 51 applications for that role.
Committee members praised HR's screening role and said preferences for bilingual or multilingual candidates should be included in postings as "preferred" qualifications rather than strict requirements. One member asked HR to consider contracted translation services if hiring a full‑time multilingual staff member proves difficult.
Members also noted recent accessibility work: agendas are now being posted in a non‑PDF format and in Legistar in a way that improves screen‑reader compatibility. The group promoted an upcoming Budget 101 community session (Saturday, Southeast Community Center, 12:00 p.m.–3:30 p.m.) and encouraged public participation.
Next steps: HR will continue interviews for the PIO and begin preliminary interviews for the financial analyst, and will incorporate preferred language skills and accessibility wording into job descriptions as requested by the committee.
