Flat Rock‑Hawcreek School Corporation’s Board of Directors on May 5 accepted several resignations, approved a set of hires and authorized multiple job postings to ensure staffing for the 2026–27 school year.
The board accepted resignation letters from English teacher Brook Moore, science teacher Sabrina Carver and speech‑language pathologist Hillary Brinen, all effective at the end of the current school year (Brinen’s resignation was recorded as effective at the conclusion of the year). Principal Chris Fortune asked the board to post an English language arts position to replace the departing teacher and also to post a potential general credit recovery teaching position to preserve scheduling flexibility if the current incumbent, Mr. Moorehead, leaves. The board approved both postings.
Facilities director JB Royers recommended elevating subcustodian Jody Everro to a full‑time nighttime custodian; the board approved the appointment. Transportation director JB Royer also presented a recommendation to approve the separation of employment for former bus driver Mark Smith; the board approved that separation.
Food service director Kim Sessions recommended hiring Crystal Shannon for a part‑time role (fewer than eight hours per week in June) to prepare meals that will be transported to the Community Center of Hope; the board approved the hire. The board also approved postings for a part‑time LPN (applications from registered nurses will be considered) and a substitute nurse. The presenters clarified that the LPN posting is intended to replace or cover current nursing hours, not to add net new hours or expense.
Board action was unanimous by voice vote on the listed personnel items during the meeting; motions were made and seconded for each item.
What this means: The board’s personnel actions are intended to fill immediate operational needs for the end of the school year and for the 2026–27 school year, including special‑services coverage, custodial staffing and continuity for credit recovery instruction. Several positions were posted to preserve flexibility while the district finalizes transfers and hires.
Next steps: The district will proceed with recruitment for the posted positions; the board will return to the agenda as hires are formalized.
