Temple City recognizes Ron McCrain as 2026 Older American and hears Committee on Aging annual report

Mayor Man proclaimed May 2026 as Older Americans Month and the council presented the Temple City Older American of the Year award to Ron McCrain, owner of Temple City Bike Shop, noting his community mentoring, bicycle donations and support for youth safety programs.
Ruby Ramos, recreation coordinator, introduced McCrain and described his work mentoring Boy Scout troops and supporting local fundraising efforts. The council presented a certificate and photo opportunity.
The council also heard the Committee on Aging’s 2025 report from Chair Anne Sites and Vice Chair Lucy Louu. The committee highlighted 24 action steps in the Senior Master Plan, expanded social-connection programming (including overnight trips to Laughlin and Hearst Castle), 34 educational presentations in partnership with 10 organizations, and volunteer contributions of about 2,200 hours across 13 senior volunteers. The committee noted that its full report card is posted on the city's website and encouraged residents to sign up for the senior newsletter.
Council members thanked the committee for its work and discussed future joint meetings with the youth committee to explore intergenerational programming.
