The Talbot County Board of Education approved several procurement and contract actions March 18 as part of routine capital and technology work.
East Middle School roof replacement: Mr. Schaefer presented bid results for the East Middle School roof, reported four bids and recommended using the Omnia Partners cooperative purchasing agreement (PW1925). He said the roof is scheduled for this summer pending county council funding approval and that the selected product carries a 30‑year warranty. The board moved, seconded and approved the recommendation.
Technology and internet contracts: Mr. Wilson reviewed technology bids for infrastructure work to be completed over the summer. The lowest responsive bidder for network switches and wireless access points was CDWG (data switches reported at approximately $275,950; wireless access points reported at about $331,588.68), both amounts reported under the board’s budget request. The board approved the CDWG awards. Mr. Wilson also presented a five-year ISP contract to add bandwidth and redundancy; the bid came in without competitors and the first-year cost was reported as roughly $29,000 with a five‑year total presented in documents as about $188,000; the board approved the ISP award.
Device buyback and surplus disposition: The board approved RFP26-0206 awarding the device buyback/surplus disposition contract to Magnicom LLC for the reported high bid of $135,231 to purchase identified surplus equipment (iPads, laptops, switches). Mr. Wilson noted the district will remove items intended for sale to graduating students under the device-dispensation policy changes presented elsewhere on the agenda.
Board members asked for clarity on schedule and county-level funding approvals for the roof and emphasized a desire for a tracker of overnight field trips and procurement outcomes for transparency. Several board members expressed urgency to avoid further damage at East Middle School pending construction.
