A Barstow parent told the school board he wants the district to post the Picture Park lease online so parents can hold the responsible party accountable and to speed repairs to restrooms and lighting.
"I wanted to let you guys know that, you know, I'm grateful for you guys stepping up and finding the lease to the city," said Timothy Justice during the public-comment period. He said some lights have loose fixtures, conduits are broken, and an announcer's platform needs work. Justice said the district had ordered about $36,000 in restroom supplies but that the restroom work needed "a little bit more" than the ordered materials could address.
Justice asked that the lease be posted on the district website so parents can see who is responsible for park maintenance and said he was seeking accountability: "I don't care who's responsible. I just think that we need to get this done for the kids because as we're all here is for the kids." The board or staff offered to collect his contact information so staff could follow up.
The president had read public-comment rules earlier in the meeting, noting the Brown Act restrictions that prevent the board from taking action on items not on the agenda; staff acknowledged they would contact Justice if he left contact information with the superintendent's executive assistant. No formal board action or vote on Picture Park repairs was held at the meeting.
