Albany County approves 100-foot self-supporting communications tower

The commission approved a tower permit (LUCT-01-26) to replace an existing 80-foot guyed tower with a 100-foot self-supporting communications tower. Staff (Jory) said the applicant addressed county-engineer requests and Game and Fish concerns about winter-range impacts and noxious-weed control.
Jonas Osmire of White Dot, representing the applicant, said the company will remove the 80-foot guyed tower and associated anchors and construct the new 100-foot self-supporting tower adjacent to the existing foundation. "We are going to be replacing the existing 80 foot guide tower with a 100 foot self-support tower...the 80 foot tower will be removed along with the foundation and all of the guy anchor hardware that's currently there," Osmire said.
Commissioners noted environmental and visual benefits of removing guy wires; staff recommended approval and the commission voted unanimously to approve the permit.
The permit record will include the revised drawings, the applicant's responses to county-engineer comments and conditions addressing weed control and wildlife-season considerations noted by Game and Fish.
