Seymour board schedules public hearing on proposed charter changes for July 1

The Seymour Board of Selectpersons voted June 17 to hold a public hearing on proposed changes to the town charter on July 1, 2025, at 6:30 p.m. in the Norma Drummer Room at Seymour Town Hall.
Kurt Miller, town chief executive (speaking to the board), said the Charter Revision Commission will hold its public hearing June 25 and plans to finalize recommended language so the board can review it in its July meeting. Miller said redlined drafts are already available on the town website and in hard copy at the community center, library and town clerk’s office.
The hearing is intended to let residents offer input before the board and town counsel craft final ballot questions. Miller told the board that, after the board’s deliberations and any additional public comment, the town attorney will work with the board to prepare the exact questions to appear on the ballot.
Selectperson Trish moved to set the hearing and Selectperson Bob Finley seconded; the motion passed with the chair voting in the affirmative.
Next steps: the Charter Revision Commission’s June 25 hearing will precede the board’s July 1 session, after which the board expects to refine questions for the ballot. The redlined draft is posted on the town website under news and available for inspection in town offices.
