Centerville police report attempted homicide arrest, review department training and security

The Centerville police chief told the Town Council on Feb. 19 that officers responded to an attempted homicide in January that led to an arrest and, according to the chief, no injuries. The chief thanked allied agencies, including the Queen County Sheriff’s Office, for assistance that contributed to the arrest.
The chief also explained why K9 activity numbers were low in January—units were in annual certification—and said the department conducted 484 business and residential patrol checks that month. He reported one current vacancy and said the department has multiple applicants under review.
Council members praised the department’s response. The chief described recent training the department provided for town staff, including an active-assailant drill and security reviews of public buildings; he said about 15–20 staff attended and the department recommended low-cost security improvements such as updated locks or key-scan systems.
What happens next: The police department will continue to work on recruitment to fill the vacancy, coordinate with allied agencies, and follow through on security-improvement recommendations for town facilities. The chief said quarterly reports and major incident updates will continue to be part of future meetings.
