Commission approves Pizza Hut manager’s request to sell beer at new McFersonson location

The Laredo Planning Commission approved a special-use permit on March 5 to allow a Pizza Hut restaurant at 9810 McFersonson Road to sell beer on premise.
Michelle La Cruz, the store manager, told the commission: "we're here to get a permit to sell alcohol" and clarified the operation would sell beer only through the franchise’s regular distributors: "just beer. I mean, it'll be just from the [licensed] distributors that we actually have in the other locations."
Staff presented the site, distance and notification maps and said letters were mailed; staff recommended continuation but the commission voted to approve the permit subject to staff comments. No members of the public spoke against the application inside the required notice radius.
What happens next: Approval by the planning commission allows the applicant to proceed with the CUP conditions and subsequent city processes; the applicant will still need any required state liquor permits and to comply with staff conditions.
