Amanda Po and site teachers reported 164 students currently enrolled across district sites and said AVID aligns with the district’s LCAP goals for teaching quality and equity.
Outcomes and examples: Presenters said all AVID seniors last year graduated on time and 94% completed college‑entrance exams used for four‑year college applications. Teachers described family nights, summer institutes and college visits. A student speaker, Tavon, said AVID helped him become a straight‑A student and build relationships that feel “like family.”
Board reaction and follow up: Trustees praised the program and asked district staff to continue supporting professional development and efforts to expand access. Public commenters asked about demographics and whether AVID could serve more students; presenters said counselors and family engagement specialists are part of recruiting and eligibility discussions.
