Superintendent highlights student awards, Sprout Scouts presentation and visit from state education leaders

At the May 5 meeting Superintendent CJ Anderson recognized art-show Best-in-Show winners, student Sprout Scouts' garden project, CTSO achievements and a visit from Nevada Department of Education leaders Tory Palmer and Dr. Victor Wakefield.
Superintendent CJ Anderson used the May 5 board recap to highlight student achievements and community engagement across the Elko County School District.
Anderson introduced student board member Dylan Clark of Spring Creek High School and thanked art teacher Amy Dross for organizing the district art show. He named Best-in-Show winners as McKenzie Abalos (Carlin Combined School, eighth grade and below) and Leica Samar (Elko High School, high-school category) and said the board congratulated all participants.
Anderson summarized a presentation by Mountain View Elementary's Sprout Scouts about their club and a garden refresh project, and thanked Tamara Gowens and Angela Terraella for their work with students. He also recognized individual staff award recipients — Josh CR (Dean of Students, Flag View Intermediate), Elizabeth Smith (teacher, West Wendover Elementary) and Maria Luna (nurse, West Wendover High School and Middle School).
In his superintendent's report Anderson acknowledged numerous CTSO accomplishments across FFA, FBLA, FCCLA and HOSA, including state championships and national qualifiers, and noted that a full list of recognized students is available via a posted link. He also thanked the Nevada Department of Education delegation — Deputy Superintendent Tory Palmer and State Superintendent Dr. Victor Wakefield — for visiting Elko County and said both visitors were "extremely impressed" with district schools.
Anderson closed his remarks by reiterating appreciation for staff during Teacher Appreciation Week, Staff Appreciation Week and specific appreciation days for school nurses, communicators and transportation staff.
