Palm Beach County commissioners adopt agenda, allow remote participation and issue multiple proclamations

The Palm Beach County Board of County Commissioners adopted its meeting agenda and moved through ceremonial proclamations on May 5, approving procedural motions and the consent agenda before recessing for lunch.
Commissioner Joel Flores moved to adopt the agenda; Vice Mayor Marci Woodward seconded and the board approved the motion, recorded as 6–0. The board then considered a request from Commissioner Maria Sachs to participate remotely; the request was moved by Commissioner Flores, seconded by Vice Mayor Woodward, and the board approved remote participation by a 5–1 vote.
The chair then presented the consent agenda. Commissioner Maria Marino moved to adopt consent; Vice Mayor Woodward seconded and the consent agenda passed. County staff noted a short list of add‑ons and revised motions posted in the packet prior to the vote.
Before finalizing consent, several members of the public spoke on consent items and requested that one speaker who could not enter the chamber be allowed to speak; the board held the consent vote and proceeded to a series of ceremonial proclamations while awaiting the speaker.
Ceremonial items included a proclamation for National Travel & Tourism Week highlighting tourism’s economic contribution, a proclamation recognizing Haitian‑American Heritage Month with remarks from a Palm Beach County Community Services representative, recognition of the Suncoast Community High School boys basketball team as the 2026 Class 4A state champions, a proclamation marking the 100th anniversary of the City of Greenacres, and recognition of Liz Quirantes’ 35‑year career at CBS‑12. The board also declared May as Mental Health Awareness and Trauma‑Informed Care Month, Building Safety Month (and noted a new development concierge pilot in the Building Division), Economic Development Week (including a recognition of Twigg's Academy), Water Reuse Week, and Emergency Medical Services Week. Officials from county departments and partner organizations briefly addressed the board during several proclamations.
A single consent speaker later asked a question about agenda item 3K3 and Water Utilities staff were asked to follow up. After a short remark period the board recessed for an early lunch and scheduled continuation of public hearings at noon.
Actions recorded (procedural): the agenda adoption motion passed 6–0; the remote participation motion passed 5–1; the consent agenda was adopted (vote recorded as passed).
