Presenters at Fairfax County symposium highlight data, AI and targeted supports for jobseekers

Presenters at the 2025 Workforce Development Professionals Symposium, hosted by the Fairfax County Department of Family Services at the Fairfax County Government Center, said data and tools such as artificial intelligence can improve employment services, job readiness and workforce planning.

More than 150 workforce development professionals attended panels that examined barriers and possible coordinated strategies for foreign-trained professionals, displaced federal workers and ALICE (asset-limited, income-constrained employed) households. Presenters stressed combining data, training and partnerships to connect people to stable employment pathways.

Panel discussions highlighted practical needs and populations: foreign-trained professionals who face credentialing and recognition issues, displaced federal workers seeking new-sector placement, and ALICE households that need services geared to limited-income but employed residents. Speakers framed these as distinct challenges that benefit from targeted outreach, upskilling and employer engagement.

Organizers said collaboration among schools, nonprofits, employers and government agencies is central to the county’s approach. Presenters described efforts to integrate data-driven planning and pilot new tools to improve job readiness programs and match jobseekers with openings more effectively.
