Commission authorizes Spokane Valley Tech students to build StoryWalk prototype

The Liberty Lake Parks and Arts Commission on May 4 authorized Spokane Valley Tech and instructor Sal Lorenzan to build a full prototype of a revised StoryWalk stand.
Commissioner David Heimbaugh presented the students’ revised design and asked the commission to permit a working prototype; he said the installation would likely move to spring 2027 for final installation because students have limited shop hours this year. The design moves from a pole model to a more Y-shaped flat-panel support to reduce warping and allow laser-cut decoration if desired.
Commissioners asked that corners be rounded to reduce potential sharp edges and discussed surfacing and mounting options so staff can more easily change story panels. Heimbaugh moved and the commission unanimously authorized Spokane Valley Tech and Sal Lorenzan to make the prototype with the adjustments.
