The Liberty Lake Parks and Arts Commission voted May 4 to form a three-person subcommittee to explore expanding live music programming in city parks.
Commissioner Gary Edwards proposed the group, saying he would be willing to chair and that local music events could bring cultural value and economic benefits to restaurants and businesses. “Arts bring in a lot of income… it would also be economically advantageous to the community,” Edwards said during the meeting.
Commissioners discussed logistics, including whether events could begin this summer, staffing and city support for load-in and tear-down, and how much labor the commission could reasonably provide. Staff member Jen Camp noted there is no separate line item outside the existing programming budget but that some programming dollars remain.
Joanie Haye and Noel volunteered to serve on the subcommittee. The commission moved to form the group; the motion was made by Katie Ferris, seconded by Joanie Haye, and carried.
Next steps include the subcommittee developing a business plan addressing setup, staffing and costs so staff can determine what city resources would be required and whether events could start in the coming season.
