The Crook County Fairgrounds will receive 40 donated stock pens from Wilco and a $15,000 grant to upgrade Kerry Foster Hall, the board learned March 18.
"They've gifted the fairgrounds 40 new stock pens from Wilco," said Casey Daly, the fairgrounds representative, adding the donated pens are valued at about $25,000. Daly also reported the fairgrounds received a $15,000 Meta Community Action grant that will be used to retrofit Kerry Foster Hall with PA systems and a screen and projector.
The board moved to accept the donations and grant and approved the acceptance by voice vote. During presentations, Tri-County High School Rodeo representatives — including student leaders Tinley Woolard, Ryan Bafford and Bailey Keegan — described the club's events (Tri-County rodeo May 1–3; state finals June 10–13 with a scholarship auction). The board discussed and approved charging $250 from the state finals organizers as a modest grounds-use contribution to the county fairgrounds.
A separate request from the Stock Growers Association asked the board to waive the Kerry Foster Hall portion of their event fee ($720) to conserve scholarship funds; the board approved the waiver after a commissioner disclosed membership in the association.
Commissioners and staff praised increased community participation and noted the grants and waivers support youth scholarships and event operations at the fairgrounds.
