Board declines to initiate historic designation for 2095 North Indian Canyon, allowing demolition permit to proceed

The Historic Site Preservation Board on Feb. 3 decided not to initiate historic-designation proceedings for 2095 North Indian Canyon Drive, a vacant, midcentury building formerly used as a treatment center.
Staff presented photos and permit-history research and said the structure — first built in 1956 and altered over time — no longer embodies the period in which it was constructed and lacks strong historic associations in the documentation supplied by the applicant. Staff recommended the board take no further action so the applicant may proceed with administrative processing of demolition permits.
After asking questions of staff and the applicant’s virtual representative, the board voted to accept staff’s recommendation. Board Member Payanesa made the motion and Board Member Moshka-Hitchcock seconded; the motion passed by the vote recorded in the transcript.
Staff noted the building has been vacant since 2020 and that permit records show multiple iterations of exterior changes; no public speakers opposed or supported the demolition during the hearing. The board’s action allows the applicant to continue with the standard building-permit process under city administration.
