Grand Rapids approves one-year Oracle ERP renewal amid implementation problems

The Fiscal Committee approved a one-year renewal of the city's enterprise resource planning (ERP) software with Oracle America Inc., a contract not to exceed $1,111,539.33. Commissioners heard that the city entered the system three years ago with an implementation partner that has underdelivered.
Miss Claren, presenting to the committee, said the city has experienced persistent implementation problems and has hired a firm called Iteria to resolve outstanding issues. She said Iteria has helped with critical payroll- and tax-related problems (W-2 and 1099 processing) that the prior implementation partner, High Street, did not resolve and has produced configuration documentation the city lacked.
Commissioner Kilgore pressed staff about known Oracle issues and asked how the city would ensure reliable payments and staff support if the contract moved forward as presented. Miss Claren described an executive oversight team, subject-matter-lead reviews, Iteria's statement of work and a plan to return to the commission with a further update on the implementation and any recommended contract changes.
The committee approved the renewal by voice vote. Miss Claren said the city will continue to evaluate the role of the original implementation partner while expanding work with Iteria and that staff will return with progress reports.
What happens next: staff said they will continue oversight with Iteria, document a remediation roadmap and report back to the commission on a timetable and potential future contract actions.
