Oconee outlines Dawson Park phases after tennis-center bids exceed budget

Daniel said the county recently added about 110 acres to a park property (bringing the total to roughly 391 acres) and that Dawson Park work will proceed in phases: site grading and infrastructure to provide pad-ready sites, road improvements to Rocky Ranch Road, then field construction (lighting, concessions, restrooms) and finally the gym. He noted federal permitting and stream-related investigations are required for parts of the site and estimated 18–24 months for initial grading and infrastructure work before fields could be constructed.
On the OBP Tennis Center, Daniel said bids exceeded the county's budget by about $2 million and were rejected; staff and designers are revising scope and the county has issued a new RFP. He also described additional park requests for field lighting, fencing, stormwater work, trails and playground improvements that would be funded if SPLOST proceeds cover parks allocations.
Daniel thanked staff and the industrial development authority for support on turf-field options and said the county will prioritize projects once bid-ready costs are available.
