Students and an advisor from the Bellbrook High School Marketing & Communications Club presented details of a community film competition and proposed film festival during the March 12 board meeting.
The advisor said the club created a 20-minute maximum film-competition category called the "Heart of Belbrook" open to any community member with ties to Bellbrook. The advisor described earlier fundraising work by students, including a 5K that raised more than $14,000 and media outreach that yielded substantial community donations.
Student presenter Venus said the club has conducted a door-to-door sponsorship drive in downtown Bellbrook and is targeting at least $5,000 to underwrite a May 30 festival. "We have just under 10 submissions right now," Venus said, and organizers plan raffle baskets and sponsor tents at the community event.
The advisor confirmed video submissions are due April 30 and that categories and awards will include best film, best director and best actor. The club invited community members and businesses to participate at multiple sponsorship levels.
Board members thanked the students for civic engagement and encouraged community participation.
