The Swampscott School Committee on March 26 approved three routine but substantive items: a memorandum of agreement with the Swampscott Education Association (SEA) that adjusts special education team chair stipends, acceptance of two donations and a $2,000 grant for a new amateur (ham) radio program, and the eighth-grade Washington, D.C. field trip.
Labor agreement: Committee members read and approved a memorandum of agreement between the Swampscott Education Association and the School Committee effective Aug. 1, 2025, to modify Appendix B stipend language for special-education team chairs. The roll-call vote was recorded as unanimous.
Donations and grant: The committee accepted a $200 donation from alumnus Alan Klein to purchase amateur radio equipment and study materials and a $325 donation of ham radio manuals from the American Radio Relay League. The AARL also awarded a $2,000 education and technology grant to support radio-equipment purchases and establish an amateur radio station; committee members asked Mr. Casey (the amateur radio advisor) to brief the committee at a future meeting on the planned club activities and equipment list.
Field trip: The committee unanimously approved the eighth-grade trip to Washington, D.C. (June 2—June 5) with 128 students registered and nine to ten chaperones plus an administrator and a school nurse.
Votes: All three measures passed unanimously by voice or roll-call votes; committee members combined minutes into a consent agenda and approved them as well.
