Teachers Association president-elect urges partnership on insurance and special-education supports

Rodia Aldridge, identifying herself as President Elect of the Teachers Association of Paramount, introduced herself to the board June 25 and urged collaboration between the union and district leadership on staffing and benefits as the district transitions to new professional-learning and special-education structures.
"I am extremely excited to be here ... I am here for you," Aldridge told the board, and she framed the association's priorities as partnership, communication and preparation for the fall. She said teachers want clarity about role changes, specifically special education assignments, and called for collaboration on managing upcoming insurance rate increases so costs can be shared equitably across employee groups.
Aldridge said teachers view working conditions as directly linked to students' learning conditions and asked the board to work with the association, district committees and insurance carriers to find "creative solutions" for any premium increases.
President Cruz and board members thanked Aldridge for her remarks and congratulated her on the leadership role. The exchange was presented during the employer-representative portion of the agenda; no formal action or vote was taken on the association's requests at the meeting.
Aldridge also signaled availability to meet over the summer as leadership transitions take place.
