JB Stevens student council showcases events, leadership and community projects

Amy Sutton, principal of JB Stevens, introduced the school's restructuring and the goal of expanding elementary opportunities as fourth grade returned to the elementary configuration. She highlighted extracurricular programs including the Cougar Juniorbots robotics club (led by Jen Stewart) and a math bowl team led by fourth-grade teachers.
Dean of students Corey Gilman and PE teacher Aaron Stevens introduced the first student council at the school in recent memory. Aaron Stevens had the council members stand and introduce themselves; students described the council's role in planning activities and supporting inclusivity. Council events announced included: PJ & Popcorn Day (Friday, Jan. 23; $1 for PJs and five-cent popcorn), a Valentine's Day dance, volunteer activities for Riley Hospital, literacy night, field day and teacher appreciation week.
Administrators closed the spotlight by inviting JB families to gather for photos and thanked students and staff for developing leadership opportunities at the school.
