Beech Grove City Schools honors five students and two athletes of the month

Superintendent Laura Hammock recognized five Students of the Month from across the district and two athletes sponsored by Alfred Insurance, praising academic achievement, leadership and extracurricular contributions across grade levels.
At its monthly meeting, Superintendent Laura Hammock honored five Students of the Month from across Beach Grove City Schools and named two Athletes of the Month in a program sponsored by Alfred Insurance.
"We have about 2,700 students that are enrolled in Beach Grove City Schools. And of those 2,700 students tonight, we're celebrating five students of the month," Hammock said as she opened the recognition segment and thanked families and staff who support the students.
Ellery Carpenter of Hornet Park was praised by school principals and multiple teachers for leadership, classroom readiness and an advanced vocabulary. Teachers described Ellery as "a leader among her peers" and "kind and confident," remarks read during the recognition.
Fourth-grader IU Marino of South Grove Elementary was described by her homeroom teacher as "an absolute joy" who brings positive energy and strong effort in and out of class. Staff noted IU's curiosity and kindness and highlighted her steady participation in art and PE.
Nathan Belden, a sixth grader at Central Intermediate, was recognized for academic curiosity, consistent preparation for band and strong peer leadership. Teachers referenced his work ethic and participation in music and math competitions.
The board noted middle-school honoree Mari Yay Jones was unable to attend and will be recognized at a future meeting.
At the high school, a junior identified as Nice was singled out for taking advanced-placement and dual-credit courses, participation in student government and selection as one of 50 students in Indiana chosen to attend a molecular medicine symposium at Indiana University School of Medicine.
The evening’s athlete awards honored Laya Muffler Chalice, celebrated by Coach Selk for her role as a team captain and on-court contributions that helped the team finish 14-9 and earn a share of the conference title; and Andreas Armstrong, introduced by Coach Sanders, who described his progression from limited eligibility to varsity play and his leadership role among teammates.
The superintendent thanked Alfred Insurance for sponsoring the athletes program and closed the recognition portion by inviting attendees to a short recess before the business portion of the meeting.
The board then moved into its business agenda; there were no public comments at this meeting.
