Senate adopts two House resolutions, approves first readings for dozens of bills and amends Rule 16

The Senate convened and completed a routine agenda that included the adoption of two house concurrent resolutions, the referral of a large set of bills on first reading and the adoption of a rules amendment.
"Mr. President, I move for the adoption of House Concurrent Resolutions number one and two," said Senator Waka, who moved the adoption; Senator D Court seconded. There was no discussion, no objections were recorded and the motions carried. HCR No. 1 relates to recess days for the regular 2026 session; HCR No. 2 requests that the governor address the legislature assembled in joint session, the clerk reported.
Senator Waka also moved that Senate bills numbered 24‑22 through 24‑98 pass first reading by title and be referred to the appropriate committees; Senator D Court seconded. With no objections, the bills were advanced on first reading and will proceed through committee consideration per Senate rules.
The body adopted Senate Resolution No. 2, which amends Rule 16 of the Senate rules for the 33rd Legislature. Senator Waka moved the adoption; Senator D Court seconded and the resolution was adopted without objection.
Chamber staff also noted an administrative irregularity: the clerk reported that Senate Bill 1197 SD1 had been re‑referred and listed on a supplemental order of the day but was then in the possession of the House, rendering the re‑referral invalid; the clerk was directed to record that finding in the journal.
Attendance was recorded at 23 present and two excused. During announcements, Senator De La Cruz thanked committee chairs and members of WAM for recent informational briefings and noted one remaining briefing with mayors after the State of the State address.
A motion to adjourn at 11:30 a.m. tomorrow was moved by Senator Waka, seconded by Senator D Court and carried without objection. Members were asked to report to the majority caucus room afterward for a floor briefing referenced in the record.
