Officer Aaron Stevens, administrative resource officer with the Richmond Police Department, told the Board of Public Works on Feb. 19 that two bridge projects bid and approved in 2019 are scheduled to begin March 2 and run through Aug. 28, 2026.
"I'm Aaron Stevens. I'm the administrative resource officer with the Richmond Police Department," Stevens said in his presentation, explaining the projects’ background and schedule. He told the board that the Richmond Avenue site actually includes two connected spans: the principal structure will receive structural repairs but is expected to remain open to pedestrians, while a smaller span over Sheran Street will be replaced.
Stevens said the projects had been bid and approved in 2019 and that many of the original participants are no longer in local government. He asked the board to approve street closures needed to complete the work. A board member moved to approve the closures, another seconded, and the motion carried.
Why it matters: the closures will allow multi-month bridge repairs and replacement work on two spans that affect vehicular and pedestrian access in Richmond City.
