Aberdeen swears in three officers; police describe new school drop-off traffic pattern

The chief described a traffic pattern in which officers place cones, prohibit left turns at a particular approach and direct drivers to make right turns onto Highway 5; officers began deployment at about 6:30 a.m. He said the principal and the school resource officer (SRO) supported the change, that the principal sent a flyer to parents notifying them of the new pattern, and that no traffic problems were reported that morning.
Quotes from the meeting included the officer oath and the chief's description of the traffic plan. "We pretty much came up with a traffic pattern where there's no left turns ... the officers go out at 6:30 in the morning put out the cones ..." the chief said.
Next steps: the chief and staff will continue the traffic pattern while monitoring for issues; town leaders did not set a firm end date and said they will revisit the plan if problems arise.
