Aberdeen’s Board of Commissioners voted Oct. 28 to adopt a revised schedule of water and sewer system development fees (SDFs) following a study by LKC Engineering.
Town staff said the update — required periodically by statute and best practice — adjusts fees to reflect current system capacity, replacement costs and anticipated growth. Staff presented a comparison showing Aberdeen's combined per‑home SDF (for a 3/4‑inch residential line plus adjacent sewer) would be approximately $3,649 under the new schedule, lower than some neighboring jurisdictions and the county combined figures cited in the staff packet.
The board opened and closed the required public hearing and adopted the fee schedule on a recorded motion; staff set the effective date as Nov. 18 to give permit applicants time to prepare for the new rates. The adopted schedule varies by meter size and commercial demand and will be used to fund capacity improvements and future extensions (wells, mains, pump stations) as required by growth.
Staff advised the board the fees must be used consistent with the statutory framework that governs SDFs and reported the town will continue to provide periodic updates to the board as fee collections are used for capital needs.
There were no substantive public objections recorded in the hearing; the town noted it will provide the new rate table to local builders, real‑estate professionals and permit applicants.
