Supervisors issue a slate of May proclamations recognizing child care, corrections, nurses, mental health and older Americans

At its May 5 meeting, the Solano County Board of Supervisors adopted multiple resolutions recognizing workforce groups and public awareness observances for May.

The board proclaimed May 8 as Child Care Provider Appreciation Day; Alicia Gutier of First Five Solano and child‑care leaders stressed the role of providers in early learning, the county’s efforts to help open care sites and the need for living wages to reduce turnover. The board also recognized May 3–9 as Correctional Officers and Correctional Employees Appreciation Week; the sheriff’s office described corrections work and honored employees, naming a correctional officer and correctional sergeant of the year.

Supervisors adopted a resolution recognizing May 6–12 as National Nurses Week, with county health leaders describing nurses’ roles from home visiting to clinics and noting recent contract ratifications; and they adopted resolutions for Mental Health Awareness Month and Maternal Mental Health Awareness Week, where a peer volunteer shared a recovery story and county maternal‑health staff described expanded services. The board also proclaimed May as Older Americans Month and heard from the Napa‑Solano Area Agency on Aging about services for seniors and the county master plan on aging.

Each resolution was adopted by unanimous vote with speakers and awardees invited forward for photos.
